Week 12: Devlog


Over the past week, there have been a few additions. Level 3 has now been completed, all levels have a simple soundtrack (which probably will remain in the final product), more art assets have been created (not yet implemented), and we were finally able to fix an issue which has existed since work on the vertical slice began. Occasionally, a collision would occur as the player moved across the platforms, causing it to jump. This was a huge issue due to the precision required for some obstacles as this jump would cause the player to lose speed. The bug is fixed now, and the player moves smoothly.


For beta testing, the main concern is similar to the alpha. The game is difficult, and although there is now a tutorial level to ease players in, it may not be enough. The playtesters also may not have been comfortable with that style of game, where you must die repeatedly to slowly learn patterns and eventually overcome the obstacle, so the game may have been fine in its previous state, or the tutorial is ok but still holds your hand a bit too much.
